To Say Nothing of the Dog - Connie Willis

This novel is a rare gem. Chaos Theory, Comedy, Mystery, Suspense, Drama, Romance, you name it, it has it! A thoroughly entertaining read, this is one of my favorite reads. In fact my wife, who seldem touches any of the books on my sci-fi shelf, has read this one a number of times. With a slight parallel to Jerome K Jeromes Three Men in a Boat, Connie Willis succeeds in engulfing the reader in 19th century England, with a traditional fish-out-of-water unlikely hero and plenty of plot, sub plot and character development. At first glance they just don't mix- comedy and chaos theory - but in the hands of the Connie Willis it turns out to be a splendidly humorous romp with enough ingredients to capture even the most demanding reader. To Say nothing of the dog ( it is actually a subtitle for Jerome K Jerome's 'Three men in a boat- to say nothing of the dog') wears its origins proudly. Inspired by the abovementioned comedic masterpiece Willis interweaves time travel, Victorian Mystery and romance throwing in all manner of lieterary allusions for the book lovers in us.It is like watching Robert Altman's 'The Player' blink and you'll miss another cameo, ...
