Advantages: Great suspense

Disadvantages: Rubbish film version

The Tommyknockers is one of my favourite King novels, although it was a bit of a flop as a film. The basic plot is how a presence manipulates a small American town. It starts with Bobbi Anderson walking her dog, she finds something in the ground and after touching it she is manipulated into digging it out of the ground. This thing also manipulates the entire town to do this by giving them gifts etc. At one stage most of the village is digging a giant alien monolith from the ground, before an incredible ending – thoroughly gripping throughout I really can’t do it justice.

It like many King novels simply can’t be put down, and the horror and suspense created is unrivalled by any author, combining and good quality evil versus good type of battle with the wonderfully detailed descriptions, truly incredible.
