The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Alan Moore
by Mauri - written on 04/08/09 (Very useful, 128 readings)
Rating:
only in recent years that this form of literature has a gained some well deserved respect. One of the most well known of the British graphic novelist is Alan Moore whose collaborations with various comic book artists like Kevin O Neill, David Lloyd and Dave Gibbons have yielded the graphic novels The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen , V For Vendetta and Watchmen respectively. Alan Moore is an interesting character. He is a modern English eccentric; he looks like a cross between and ageing member of Hawkwind and a Tolkien like wizard, both descriptions which would undoubtedly please him. He is a student of the weird and wonderful and dabbles in magic and ancient ...

parts too. but be warned - this can be quite a graphic graphic novel. i m no prude, but it may be best not to introduce this to an impressionable pre-teen. I d never read or seen the rest of Alan Moore s comics before but after reading this, i bought the second in the series and am on the lookout for his other books now. i never thought i d be a convert to the graphic novel genre, but stranger things happen every day! in short - it s good, humorous and with intricate and awe-some (in the old sense of the word) detail in the ...

From Hell - Alan Moore, Eddie Campbell

Rating:
Ten years in the making, Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell s graphic novel From Hell is by far and away the best comic that I ve ever read. It makes an utterly convincing case for comics to be regarded as a "proper" art form in their own right. It is immensely rich in terms of language and ideas, and the artwork is more than a match for the writing. It s a dense and often challenging graphic novel, but it really repays the effort it takes to read. Just one point: I m not aware of this ever having been published by Knockabout. The currently available version is published by Eddie Campbell comics, and before that it was serialised by Kitchen Sink. I could be wrong, ...
