'Topsy And Tim Go To The Doctor' was always one of my favourites of the twins' stories when I was growing up. My copy was a very tatty old paperback but Topsy and Tim books are now published as little Ladybird hardbacks, for the very reasonable price of £2.50 [they can be picked up even cheaper than this from Amazon or Tesco]. Can't say fairer than that can you?
For those of you not 'in the know', Topsy and Tim are twins. Their stories are written by Jean and Gareth Adamson and have been delighting children for years and years. Topsy and Tim get up to lots of different adventures and several of their books are great ways to introduce children to new experiences [such as going to the doctor in this case].
'Topsy And Tim Go To The Doctor' begins on a cold morning when Mummy is cross with Tim because he doesn't want to eat the yummy cooked breakfast which she has made for him. Dad realises that Tim isn't feeling well so Tim is bundled up and is taken to the surgery to see [the rather tasty] Dr Sims. Tim is examined and is given a prescription to take to the dispenser which makes him feel so much better that he is able to tuck into his jelly at teatime. But why is Topsy now not eating? Cue a second trip to the doctor's that evening!
This book measures the standard Ladybird hardback size of 16.4 x 11.6 x 0.6 cm. The cover is off a picture of Tim being examined by the lovely Dr Sims. There are colourful, clear pictures on each page.
This book is suitable for children aged from about 3 to 7 and is really handy to have if your little one is a bit nervous about visiting the doctor as well as being a charming story in its own right.
