This is one of those books whose effect on me has been huge...........it's a very academic book, not an easy read, and definitely not popular psychology, but a book unlike any other, and one which is invaluable if you're interested, as I am, in post traumatic stress and its effects on the mind and body. Van der Kolk is one of the world's leading writers on trauma and its effects, and in this work he draws together others in the field in a selection of academic essays such as "Trauma and its Challenge to Society" and "Trauma and Memory".
