One of Barbara Trapido’s best novels, this book is beautifully written. The first three chapters detail the most amazingly 3D relationships I think I have ever read in a book. The relationship portrayed between Ellen and Lydia (sisters) is so well written that when Lydia is killed (I am spoiling nothing by telling you this – it is the premise of the book), I wept and wept and felt a pseudo sense of loss.
