God Is Not Great - Christopher Hitchens

Premium Review A superb introduction to atheism. (287 words)
by Tanglewood001 - written on 27/10/08 (Very useful, 20 readings)
Rating:

God Is Not Great is a timely and elegant broadside against religious faith from perhaps Britain s leading intellectual figure. With clarity, vigour, and characteristic wit, Christopher Hitchens deconstructs the numerous reasons for belief in God, pointing out their myriad logical flaws and factual missteps as he goes. Rating:

This book is great. I was traveling in Kathmandu, Nepal, went into a bookstore and this title grabbed me. I wondered why I never heard of the book in the US. Upon looking further I discovered the idea of the book was an essay attacking Catholicism. When Jose Saramago won the Nobel Prize for literature the Vatican issued a statement against the award, and anything that can rile up the Catholic hierarchy certainly demands our attention. Hitchens book elaborates on the problem with religion: that it discounts all those who do not practice the given religion. The Abrahamaic religions do not teach us how to live with honor. Mother Theresa saves mythical souls, and gives purpose to suffering, ...
