A Country Affair - Rebecca Shaw

Premium Review Fancy An Affair? (537 words)
by karenuk - written on 19/07/01 (Very useful, 173 readings)
Rating:

Rebecca Shaw has written eight novels in a series set in a village called Turnham Malpas. I have read the first five of these so far (and written opinions on them!) and I’m planning to read the others too. But Shaw has now finished her Turnham Malpas series and has changed tack – from a quiet village based around the church and rectory to a more modern setting, centred round the Barleybridge Veterinary Practice. The main character in the first book of this new series – A Country Affair – is Kate Howard, a nineteen year old who begins a new job as a receptionist, while aspiring to become a trained vet one day. Shaw is excellent at ...

Village Matters - Rebecca Shaw

Crowned Review Village Matters - Indeed It Does! (662 words)
by karenuk - written on 08/02/01 (Very useful, 34 readings)
Rating:

Village, but it is still very good and well worth a few days of your time. Village Matters is the third in this series by Rebecca Shaw, but the second one I read. Afterwards, I read The New Rector, the first in the series, but my third. Phew! Confused yet? Village Matters continues where Talk of the Village left off really. Although it would be preferable to read the books in order, it is not necessary. It is nice catching up with all the ...

by karenuk - written on 25/01/01 (Very useful, 77 readings)
Rating:

only stop reading because your eyes have shut by themselves from exhaustion, or your partner has pointedly turned the light off. Talk of the Village is actually Rebecca Shaw’s second novel in a series of books about Turnham Malpas, but was the first of hers that I read. It was written in 1995, but the latest book has recently been published. The New Rector is the first in the series, there are eight books out altogether. Rebecca Shaw is British, she was born in Yorkshire and – This g ives hope to all us aspiring authors! – only became an author once her youngest child ...

Detailed narratives, horses Lurve

Well written and researched, with a fast moving and involving story. The two sections of the book create a disjointed feel and it is slightly cliched in places.

Delightfully quirky and original Parts lost in translation?

Fascinating tale of bully & victim, brilliant atwood descriptions and tales as always Plot lacking in....something!
