Truckers is the First Book of the Nomes, also known as the Bromeliad, a trilogy of children’s fantasy books by Terry Pratchett. It involves the Nomes (not Gnomes), who are visitors from another planet – though at the very start of the book they don’t realise this. (It’s revealed early on though or I wouldn’t have mentioned it at all.) They’re little critters who are losing a fight for survival against the rats and other dangerous animals around their home. Dwindling in numbers, something has to be done, decides Masklin. He’s about the only young Nome in the tribe, and as such he gets lumbered with pretty much all the work there is going. Enough is enough, he decides – ... Read the complete review

This is a trilogy of books about the nomes. They are very little people who are about 1 inch tall and move so much faster than us, which is why we can’t see them and these are their adventures in our world. Truckers The story is about Masklin the young Nome who takes a band of nomes to safety and end up in The Store (Arnold Bros Est. 1905). Here they find other like them and also they find that they come from much farther than they think, as they are in-fact interstellar travellers who have crash-landed on Earth. When they find out from The Thing, the black box flight recorder from the crashed ship, that the store is to be demolished that is where ... Read the complete review

Here we go again into the world of Terry Pratchett, this time the books called Truckers. A book which tells a story of Nomes and their families, of how they think, live and survive in a world of humans. Masklin is the hunter for the small group of Nomes which have dwindled in size since the last spring. Masklin is a good provider of food for the other Nomes, but pickings are getting harder, the litter bin in which he checks every night sometimes holds a few cold soggy chips left over from the paper wrappers, sometimes he'll be lucky and find a bit of fish or a thrown away sandwich. The carpark where they live near gets quieter in winter and Masklin ... Read the complete review

Whilst PTerry is best known as the author of the best selling discworld series which, with their clever punning is aimed at the adult market he has also produced two successful children's series the nome trilogy and the Johny series - Truckers is the 1st in the nome trilogy. Nomes are a race of 4 inch high beings who, despite resembling a sumo wrestler, move too quicly for the human eye to see. As the story details the nomes are a space travelling race whose landing ship crashed on Earth 15,000 years ago, and were unable to repair their ship. To assist them in the process they helped mankind to develop agriculture and metallurgy but as time passed the ... Read the complete review

____Truckers - Terry Pratchett____ Terry Pratchett isn't my normal choice of author but when it was all my other half had sitting on his shelf i decided to give it a try. Truckers is the First Book in a series about Nomes .I picked this one because there are plans to bring out a movie off it next year .The nomes are little people (sort of like borrowers) who have came from another planet. At the beginning of the book they are fed up as numbers are dropping due to the fact they live outside and other animals are eating them or if they survive that nature is having a negative impact on their numbers. They decide to move indoors and with a spot of ... Read the complete review
