TRUE is the title of singer turned actor Martin kemp's autobiography. The most fascinating part of this book is when Kemp reveals he had a tumour. The devastation he felt when he realised he could die is heartbreaking, though his positivity in staying focused and battling meant he always thought he could survive. I love to read inspirational stories and this is one of them as surviving a severe illness leaves others with hope they can do the same. Kemp reveals how he got into the band Spandeau Ballet along with his brother and the other night fame that came with it. Kemp admits that though it was great to be doing something he loved the fame that ... Read the complete review

Now I love books, but I am not really one for the showbiz gossip. I asked for this book for my Christmas last year because I had heard about Martin Kemp's Brain surgery. In this book Martin Kemp talks about his childhood, his dream to make it big, his first job, the big break for the group etc. I have found this book to be very open and down to earth. Born into a working class family, needless to say Martin did not have it all. He did have a very loving family who grafted hard. Martin was first introduced to the stage at an early age and he speaks about the fun and fundamental lessons that he learnt from his drama teacher at his ... Read the complete review

Martin Kemp craved to be in a band from being very young. His big brother Gary joined a band first and Martin would roadie for them. He was brought up in Islington London at no. 138 Rotherfield St and is now 39 years old(same age as me). His family lived in quite poor conditions for 14 years of his life, the house was built on four floors with mice in the basement. They lived next door to a pub which treated them to renditions of "Roll out the barrel" every Saturday night. Martin seems the insecure brother whilst Gary seems more outgoing and sure of himself. His first job was at a printshop which his dad got for him. His ... Read the complete review

Martin Kemp and compelling, two words that I’d never thought I’d say in the same sentence but that’s what this book is, compelling. I purchased it from Amazon.co.uk with a free five pound voucher that I received through lineone.com. I bought this book because I like reading autobiographies and I had seen martin kemp on this is your life and found his tales to be fascinating. Reviewing books is not one of my strong points but I just had to write about this so bare with me. I shall provide a brief explanation but I don’t want to ruin it for others; - The first chapter is based around the first operation for the one of two brain ... Read the complete review

I am a sucker for autobiographies and will read almost anyone's I have heard of and even some from people I have never heard of but it is great when someone comes along with a real story to tell and when I read Martin Kemps that was exactly the case. Martin is completely open throughout this book and tells of his struggle as a youngster and of knowing he had talent but watching his brother progress whilst he stood still and how it led to a bit of jealousy before he finally got his break. What a career he has had since his big break though, starting out in a pop band (Spandau Ballet) and moving on to have a very successful career as an actor whilst ... Read the complete review
