Plot Outline
Terry Pratchett has made his 25th novel, the truth, the first of the industrial age novels. That is a novel in which an industry that has an effect on future novel is created.
William de worde comes from a wealthy family which he has effectively disowned. He makes enough money to live off by writing things down, or reading things out, for a largely illiterate city -
Ankh-Morpork, and writing a monthly newsletter of the goings on in the city for important foreigners.
One day on his way to get his latest copy of the newsletter printed by the engravers guild, and Sacharissa's father, he gets run down by some dwarves and their printing press. As an apology they print off a few hundred copies of his newsletter and thus the first newspaper is born.
The dwarves can print so fast because they use movable type which is frowned upon in the city as words have power.
Meanwhile there is a plot to get rid of the patrician and the paper is covering it, meaning that the paper gets wound up in things.
The story then unfolds with lots of twists and turns.
My Feelings
Humour is never lacking in a Discworld book and this is no different. But amongst the painful laughter is a moral and a test of your humanity. I loved the book and must have read it at least 20 times. When ever i go back to the Discworld series this is always the first book i read as i know it will set me up for all the future Discworld books i will read
I love the characters in this book and tulips ---ing speech impediment is hilarious.
Remember. A lie can run around the world before the truth has got its boots on.
In Summary
This is one of my favourite Discworld novels with twists turns and even a couple of smooches. Reporting has never been so funny
An Evil.Sam review.
