Advantages: addictive, great characters, interesting story and take on vampire folklore.

Disadvantages: The mopey 'emo' that is Edward Cullen, typos (in a paperback edition!!!!)

What I will say is that when people read these books they need to bear in mind that essentially their target market is teenage readers - This is not highbrow reading. It was for this reason that late in 2007 I was intrigued by its synopsis on the back cover but put off by the fact it was in the teenage section (I was hunting down a present for my little sis). However, I couldn't have been any more wrong.
I adore vampire fiction and adore this book. It had me hooked from the first few chapters. For this reason, it really is like the new Harry Potter for me. If it wasn't for uni work I would have spent the whole day reading the Twilight saga until I had to sleep.
Unlike many teenage fans I don't read it for Edward either. I actually find him quite annoying and 'emo' as a character (particularly in later books) but find the story very interesting despite this. The special powers of the vampires adds a interesting aspect to the already intriguing vampire characters that Meyer has created and I find this book immensely enjoyable. What I would say is that people need to look past the hype surrounding this book and give it a try.

So don't let the fact it's a teenage book generating a lot of teenage hype put you off reading this. This is an interesting take on vampire folklore, so long as you are willing to accept such a different deviation. I even have my 21 year old boyfriend reading this.

And before I finish - Camp Jacob totally :P

Summary: Don't let the teenage hype put you off.
