Twisted - Jonathan Kellerman ... struggling with a baffling drive-past murder when Isaac Gomez, a young research prodigy, tells her he's found something she might want to take a look at. His theory that there's a connection between six unsolved murders committed in the LAPD area over the past six years, all at around midnight on June 28, seems fanciful at first - but soon the links become clearer. Something evil has managed to conceal itself between the dry pages of the files: a series of killings so meticulously constructed that the mind behind them would have remained invisible without Isaac's sharp probing. And June 28 is just a month away - will Petra be able to stop the murderer from striking again?

... was a real page-turner. As a character, Petra does fit into the usual ‘been there seen it all’ detective mould. In fact, she is even stronger than many female detectives are portrayed because she generally seems to work on her own. However, her relationship with her boyfriend, who has recently been sent to the Middle East on a terrorism case, gives her a little more softness and makes her a lot more approachable. Her mothering of Isaac also gives her more compassion and generally makes her a more likeable character. ...more

Premium Review Twisted - Jonathan Kellerman: Criminal minds=brilliant minds? (853 words)
by sunmeilan - written on 04.04.07 (Very useful, 105 readings)
Rating:

Petra Connor, a Detective Sergeant in a US city, isn’t too impressed when she gets landed with genius Isaac Gomez, an intern working for the police department while doing a PhD for fun. She has a slew of cases to work on, including a drive-by shooting that killed four young people, one of whom can’t be identified. Isaac’s idea that there is a connection between murders of very different people all murdered on or around midnight on June 28 for several years in a row is initially pooh-poohed. But then Petra starts to get interested. The MO is the same in nearly every case. Knowing that her captain will not allow her any time or manpower to work on the case, she keeps it to ...

Premium Review TWISTS - AND NO TURNING THE LIGHT OUT! (1006 words)

I am a fan of Jonathan Kellerman’s psychological thrillers, particularly if they centre around my favourite recurring characters of Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis. ‘Twisted’ features neither and whilst I don’t always enjoy the author’s departure from this ‘odd couple’, this enthralling page-turner was an exception. TWISTED is the second novel to feature Petra Connor (the first was ‘Billy Straight’). As I haven’t read that novel, I can’t say how it compares. THE TALE JK HAS TO TELL: Petra, is a 30-year-old detective with the LAPD, based in Hollywood’s Homicide Division. Around midnight on 28th June 2002, a crowd of teenagers are leaving ...

Premium Review Twisted - Jonathan Kellerman: Twisted _ Just Keep Turning (those pages) (765 words)

Six years after 'Billy Straight' and a year after her reappearance in the Alex Delaware thriller 'A Cold Heart' Jonathan Kellerman has released his second Petra Connor novel. I am a big fan of Kellerman's psychological thrillers which feature his main recurring characters psychologist Alex Delaware and cop Milo Sturgis I have also enjoyed his departures from these two characters, 'The Butcher's Theatre', 'Conspiracy Club' and the aforementioned 'Billy Straight' and as Delaware and Sturgis hurtle towards senior citizen status it may be the case that Delaware needs new characters. Petra Connor may well be the character that Kellerman is looking to, to fill this ...
