I enjoyed this book, but perhaps it would have appealed to me slightly less had I not been English. I had never heard of Nicholas Crane before buying the book. I brought it purely on the strength of an article that I saw in Wanderlust, because walking in a straight-line across England sound a bit of a different idea and possibly something that I'd liked to have tried if I'd thought of it first! Nicholas Crane writes well, is often witty (though I wouldn't describe the book as 'humour') and perhaps most importantly is not overly-judgemental without sound reason.
