Advantages: Brilliant graphics, very interesting, covers many varied subjects

Disadvantages: None

It's Ok surfing for information but,
sometimes all that you want to do is
settle down with a good book.

That doesn't mean it has to be a novel
or anything like that, you can always
get your nose into a good cookery or
reference book in order to wind down!

This is one of those that you will not
want to put down.

It's published by Dorling Kindersley
who are one of the best publishers on
the market with regards to pictorial
reference books.

It's filled with masses of photos and
illustrations (6,000), 644 pages long,
showing cutaway and exploded views of
everything from prehistoric earth,
physics and chemistry, to sports, art
and music.

One of the best things about this
dictionary is the detail and realism
of the graphics, (some of the body
pics are a bit realistic) so items
stay in your mind more than reading
the details in a normal reference book.

You'll find that the entries aren't
your normal educational 'boring'
subjects but more modern things like
the inside of a jet engine, American
Football playing info, even the
components of an electric drill (so
the next time yours stops working,
grab your dictionary it may help!).

Some of the things that we (or some
of us) found pretty boring at school
ie. cracks and fissures, flower parts
etc. are pretty interesting when you
see the full colour, exploded view.

I think that the R.R.P. of the book is
about £25.00 so it is quite expensive,
but I bought mine for about £2.50 as
one of my introductory books when I
joined one of the major book clubs, so
it could be worth searching for it
when you next see an advert in the
Sunday papers!

I think that it is a great book both
for young and old (the only thing
may be the graphic details of the
inside of the
reproductive system and
the development of a baby, but there
are only 4 pages in total refering
to these).
