Advantages: ABORTION STORY

Disadvantages: FAMILY TALK

UPFRONT AND PERSONAL is the autobiography of singer turned televison presenter Coleen Nolan.
The autobiography contains 360 pages with many chapters.

Nolan starts writing about her childhood which I found very boring. There were some interesting parts as she had such a big family, but most of it was dull.

When it came to talking about her sister's starting to dance and sing hence forming The Nolan Sisters the book became interesting. The relationship with her sisters started off well, though spending so much time together meant it became strained. The insight into touring and performing is very good and although they all loved the limelight, the pressures it put on them made it difficultfor the family.

A really heartbreaking story is Nolan explaining about her abortion. At such a young age she had to hand lose a child and she is open and honest about everything that happened. Also her mother suffers from Alzheimers and she explains the problems her family have faced dealy with this condition, but how there love for her remains constant.

There is a large section on her marriage to Shane Ritchie. This is entertaining as it shiwcases the problems two famous people have when they get together. Nonetheless, Nolan admits without Shane she would never of had her children who she loves deeply, so much so that her description of her family in the book is a little tiresome.

The last few chapters highlight her work on daytime television show LOOSE WOMEN. Not been a fan of this show I found this boring, but at least she gives a good insight in to what goes on in television world and the personalities and guests they've had on the show which make up some decent anecdotes.

Overall, Nolan comes across as a bit limelight obsessed. Having grown up as famous I suppose that's all she knows, but it was a little pretentious at times. Her constant talk of her family was boring. NOnetheless, her bravery about talking about the abortion and her mother were very honest chapters that gave the book a real passion and emotion. The writing was good and easy to read although some parts went throgh me as they were tedious.
Avaliable from AMAZON at £4.19 this is a hit and miss book.

Summary: NOLAN TALKS LOOSELY
