That's Not My Dinosaur is a childrens book which is part of a series of award winning books by top childrens book publisher Usborne. Other books in the series include That's Not My Bunny, That's Not My Santa, That's Not My Bear, That's Not My Angel, That's Not My Car, That's Not My Dolly, That's Not My Dragon, That's Not My Plane, That's Not My Pirate, That's Not My Penguin and That's Not My Teddy - just to name a few (I think you get the idea!).

That's Not My Dinosaur is written by Fiona Watt and illustrated by Rachel Wells and is designed for children 1+ years. The book was published in 2002 and it's RRP is £5.99, although if you shop around you can get it for less. It's currently on Amazon.co.uk for £3.49 and in WHSmith for £4.79.

The book is 10 pages long and starts on the front cover. The pages are nice and thick and made of wooden board. The pages are laminated so it is not as edible as a lot of childrens books (yes I said edible!). The dimensions are 160mm x 160mm. The book is unisex and is made with paper from a sustainable forest (according to the back page). Each page has a different texture on and bright colours which helps develop babies sensory skills. There are also different dinosaurs on each page but they are very cute as apposed to scary dinosaurs. Each page starts with the same phrase which babies really enjoy as it means they can join in and seem to get quite excited by.

Here is the lay out of the book:
Front page - That's not my dinosaur... its body is too squashy. Includes a picture of a purple diplodocus with 4 green, shiny, crocodile skin like textured holes on it's body.
Page 1 and 2 - That's not my dinosaur... its tail is too fuzzy. Includes a picture of an orange spineosaurus with red fuzzy textured tail.
Page 3 and 4 - That's not my dinosaur... its teeth are too bumpy. Includes a picture of a green t-rex with white, bumpy paper like textured teeth.
Page 5 and 6 - That's not my dinosaur... its flippers are too slippery. Includes a picture of a pink plesiosaurus with sparkly textured flippers.
Page 7 and 8 - That's not my dinosaur... its horns are too rough. Includes a picture of a red triceratops with 3 yellow, rough, sandpaper like horns (nails running over this is like nails on a blackboard, seriously).
Page 9 and 10 - That's my dinosaur! Its spines are so soft. Includes a picture of a blue Stegosaurus with purple soft, smooth textured spines on his back.

Luckilly my 1 year old really enjoys books. She has had this book since she was born and over time has really warmed to it. Nowadays this is one of her favourite books, alongside a couple of others from the Usborne touchy-feely series. She loves feeling the textures and joins in with the "that's not my dinosaur" part of the story. It is great value for money and I think it will get another couple of years use. The only downside is that I have to read it a thousand times over!

Summary: it's a good one!

Thanks! I did think about giving away the 'plot' but I figured the same rules didn't apply when reviewing baby books, as I'd personally want to know what to expect before buying :]

And no I hadn't heard of those books, I'll check them out now, thanks x

Have you ever read Terry Pratchett's "Where's My Cow?" It follows the same pattern as these books, and he wrote it to be part of one of his Discworld series of books, but liked it so much he published it separately with illustrations.

Great op, even if you did give all the plot away! :-D
