Vampire Mountain is the fourth book in the Saga of Darren Shan series written from the point of view of the author Darren Shan. After becoming a half-vampire and leaving his family and friends behind in the first three books, this next installment follows him and Mr. Crepsley to the vampire headquarters.

After making Darren a half vampire without the vampires permission Mr. Crepsley is forced to take Darren on a trip up the dangerous Vampire Mountain to meet the clan and have his fate decided. The trip has many twists and turns and when the bloodthirsty Vampeneze appear to be on their trail it might turn out to be Darren's last voyage as a member of the undead.

The style of the previous books is retained in Vampire Mountain with Darren Shan telling a fictional autobiographical story of his life. The story begins to progress as a series in this installment as the fight against the Vampeneze materialises and moves the saga forward. This book is as good as any of the previous three and continues to display Darren Shan's mastery of the teenage horror genre. If you've enjoyed the series so far then keep reading because there is more to come from this story.
