Murder is not a laughing matter. In fact, in the list of most amusing things 2008 it did not appear anywhere in the top 20. With this in mind crime writers tackle the issue in different ways. The likes of Bill Fitzhugh and Carl Hiaasen argue that murder is actually pretty amusing and should be in comedy novels. Other authors such as Michael Connolly take it altogether more seriously, but write exciting prose and interesting characters to make up for the lack of humour in the book.
