... “Vurt Trip”, it’s close to LSD as it creates hallucinogenic effects but far more dangerous as the effects are not only hallucinogenic but actually take you to a VR world where there are different set of rules to the usual reality ! Ok so far ? I’ll talk feathers for a minute : Blue Feathers, these are legal and usage will not result in a robo-police chase or any injury or uncontrollable happening they are easy to snap out ...more

Premium Review Vurt - Jeff Noon: Vurt-ually Awesome (1048 words)
by - written on 23/08/02 (Very useful, 456 readings)
Rating:

Jeff Noon wrote this rather bizarre novel as a tribute to Manchester where he was born, it won the Arthur C. Clark Sci-Fi award in 1994 ! I was going to write a review on Strangers by Dean Koontz that I’ve just finished, but there’s no category for it, so until those DY egg heads sort out a slot for that I thought I’d review a favourite book of mine. Sit back and let your imagination run wild, you’ll need to if you read this book it’s absolutely crackers ! It’s a very “druggiefied” book, set in the near future in a rather disturbing Manchester backdrop. The book follows the adventures of the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not for the weak (385 words)
by - written on 23/07/02 (Useful, 39 readings)
Rating:

The Vurt – a place for living out other people’s dreams. People spend their time searching for better theatre for harder more dangerous dreams. Dreams come in feathers. Feathers are taken orally. They can be shared. Dreams can be communal. There are 5 colours of feather. Every feather is a mix of these: BLUE: Pure. Clean. Legitimate. Legal. This theatre has been passed by the censors. It is a little banal for the hardcore of Vurt players. A little too easy. A little too safe. There is nothing to lose. BLACK: Bootleg. Illegal dreams. You are safe in these as long as you are not easily offended. Beware of extreme and gratuitous ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Vurt - Jeff Noon: High Noon (267 words)
by - written on 14/12/00 (Useful, 34 readings)
Rating:

The Manchester Born author has written several books now. "Vurt" was his first and in my opinion his best book. This book is, is a very original and highly enjoyable, and very well written Novel. It’s fast paced and very very difficult to put down. It is about a group of losers called "The Stash Riders", who are trying to rescue one of their member's sisters who got lost inside a Vurt. A Vurt is a Virtual Reality induced by sucking "vurt feathers". There only hope of rescuing this girl is to find the most potent feather of them all, one called "Curious Yellow". This book takes them all over ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lost in the vurt (168 words)
by - written on 10/11/01 (Useful, 24 readings)
Rating:

This book was definatley the best-buy from the sci-fi/fantasy section at my local book store. unexpectadley this book put its'self in the little cubboard in my brain containing other such wonderous books, such as '2001' and 'The Lord of the Rings'. This is a highly imaginative book that draws upon C.S.Lewis's strange, but surreal style. There is even an ambiguos cat that keeps on popping up. however, this does not detract from the book, it merely adds another dimension to the story. The book is set in Manchester in the not to distant future. Any Mancunians would feel at home with this book, with Noon describing Manchester in his high speed ...  Read the complete review
