***The Illustrations***
As with the other books in this woodland tales series, the illustrations stand out with the help of some shiny inserts on the pages. Unlike others in this series though, which have gold inserts, this one has a silvery sheen to it, which is just right to give it an icy feel. There is one page that has gold inserts though and that shows the warmth of the candle in bear's home whilst he sleeps.

***Background*** Debi Gliori is probably better known for her Pure Dead series of books than her picture books even though she has written and illustrated dozens of them. Her book Mr Bear won her a Children's Book Award and there are many other in that particular series to delight young children. Born in Glasgow, Debbie went to Art College in Edinburgh before travelling and then settling in Scotland to have her 5 children.
