Advantages: Simple and straightforward

Disadvantages: do not not the violent element but its a reality I know.

This book was on the bookshelf for a while. I didn' touch it as I thought it was all about violent and fights, I was partially wrong.

Geoff Thompson is well known and respected teacher in martial art. This book tells about his early days, struggling to cope with a life of intimidation and indoctrination. He became a bouncer in a notorious nightclub in the 80s, partly to confront his fears and standing up to bullies.

In his years as a bouncer, he experienced comaraderie amongst his colleague and was also involved in hundreds of brutal and bloody fights. His fights and reputation became notoriously known in the nightclub circuits and he was soon addicted to violence.

The murder of two friends and a near -death violent fight forced his to reaccess his relationsip with violence. Through self discovery, self discipline, he translate the discipline and teaching of martial arts get handle his fears.

Though I dislike stories with fights and violence, the story.s inner meaning of struggle, discipline, inspiration soon overtake the violent element. Not everyone can come out triumph from a background of violent and depression. This story depicts human determination of not allowing our circumstances to control us.

I have read a few reviews about this book and most have review this book from diifferent angle. I look upon it as an inspiring story of triumph over fear. Others have reviewed this book for the story on club fights, depiction of nightclub scenes in the 80s and some even relate to his martial art expertise.

Perhaps that's what make this book a good read. Geoff Thompson writes in a language that is simple and easy to comprehend. A style without fancy and beautiful words, a style that most of us can relate to.

There are 608 pages in the book with some photos on Geoff Thompson and martial art. Sold in Amazon at £7.99.

His credentials:
Holder of the rank of 6th Dan black belt in Japanese karate.
1st Dan in Judo
Bafta award winner 2004 for his short film- Brown Paper Bag
Published 30 books on martial art and self improvement.

A film based on this book called, Clubbed , is Geoff Thompson first feature film which is scheduled to be screen in cinema in January 2009.

Don't get deceived by the cover and the synopsis of the book, I believe that there is a story for everyone here.

Summary: There is a story here for you
