Advantages: Full instructions with tracings.

Disadvantages: Instructions not always crystal clear

If you like to paint and cannot draw, then this book is perfect for you. It comes with five reusable tracings to pull out and use. It has 48 pages of instructions with each picture have around 50 step by step instructions for you to follow.

The six paintings are:
Newquay, Pin Mill, Alnmouth Estury, St Ives, Norfolk Wherry.

The book firstly gives introductions. It then gives an overview of the materials i.e. paints, brushes and paper. For each of these Charles tells you what he uses and why he has chose to use e.g. he uses Winsor and Newton 300gsm (140lb) in weight. It has a hard working surface. This means he doesn't have to pre stretch and it will not cockle when wet.

The next section is on transferring the image. This is the easy part! Then it's on to the best part, getting your paints out and following the instructions. You'll have great fun with this providing you have already had some exprience with water colours.

Summary: Great book for helping you paint boats and harbours, especislly if you are like me and cannot draw.
