Advantages: Some good beauty and fashion advice
Disadvantages: If you don't like the WAG culture I can tell you now you won't like it.
I bought Coleen's book Welcome To My World due to my complete addiction to her, even though I do know that a lot of people think that she is a 'pointless' celebrity. But if there is one thing this girl does know a thing or two about, its fashion and how to look good. Plus I had to make up the £15 on amazon to get my free delivery!
Coleen is the wife of Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney. Her book Welcome to my World is about the events and experiences she has encountered, particularly since she has been with Wayne. It mixes her reflections of the past few years with fashion and beauty tips she has picked up. Throughout the book there are lots of pictures of Coleen looking stunningly beautiful at various events that she has attended or photo-shoots. I actually really enjoyed browsing through these as I read the book.
Croxeth, Baden-Baden, Monaco, Cannes and St Tropez
In this chapter, we learn about the 2006 World Cup Summer holidays that Coleen takes with Wayne after England fail to progress. And boy does this girl have some holidays. You also read about the attention she attracts from the paparazzi even when not in the UK.
Question: What's my Favourite Sport? Answer: Cricket
If you do know anything about this Liverpool lass you'll know that the heading is not talking about cricket with bats and balls. No, Coleen's favourite sport is shopping, mainly in her favourite store, Cricket, a boutique designer shop. It is also in this chapter that she advises you to experiment and be yourself when it comes to style, not copy somebody elses and feel totally uncomfortable. She also makes suggestions on what are her big fashion no-no's.
Always a Liverpool Girl
It is in this section that we learn a little bit about Coleen's background and the life that she has come from. Basically a normal family. She also tells us about how she met Wayne, and a little about their relationship.
Dancing the Night Away with the Stars
We are told in this chapter all about Coleen's opinion on the night she attended David and Victoria Beckham's pre 2006 world cup party and how star struck she was. She partied away all night with big named stars and loved every second of it; wouldn't we all. She also lists a number of ways to look glam instantly and things to have in an emergency. Later into the chapter, she additionally describes various other parties that she has attended, with both her friends and Wayne.
A Very Strange Relationship
This section is dedicated solely to Coleen's relationship with the press. She explains the highs and lows of the interaction they have and the fact that she appreciates them as she knows that she wouldn't have half of the things she does were it not for the e.g. Asda contract, Closer magazine column.
The Vogue Shoot that Almost Never Happened
Coleen explains why she almost turned down the opportunity the appear of the cover of one of the best fashion magazines around. Who would have thought that the girl in that puffa jacket would even be on the cover of Vogue!
Big Betty, Bob and Doing a Klinsmann: Growing up a McLoughlin
This is devoted to Coleen's family and we see here how much she cares and loves them. She certainly hasn't forgotten her roots. She tells us about her sister Rosie and the disability she suffers from.
Welcome to the World of Colly Mac
In this chapter it is clear as day how important Coleen's friends are to her. She tells us here a variety of stories about her friends and her and we see what a normal girl she is. She also lists her favourite night out preparation music and her recuperation guide after a heavy night out. I'm sure she's telling us from experience!
Food and Fitness: Its Like My Dad Has Always Said...
Coleen tells us how she, like us girls, puts on weight when she eats what she likes. And I personally found that quite comforting. She gives tips on how to get fit quick and explains how she gets sucked into the magazines telling us how we should look body-wise too.
Are They Talking About Me
This was one of my favourite chapters to read. Coleen explains how not everything you read in the papers and magazines are the truth. Now, I should learn from this, because I take everything I read as gospel. Maybe now I won't. She tells how her nan has even had to ask her, is this the truth?
Photo-shoots and the Art of Breathing In
This chapter describes the routine Coleen goes through when she goes to a photo-shoot. Definitely not as glamorous as I expected.
We're Not All Called Chardonnay or Cristal
This chapter tells us about the battle she has faced with the stereotype of being a WAG. I personally think she is different to the others, as she has made a name for herself aswell, even if it is only through Wayne.
Don't Start Shopping 'til You've Had Enough
I can imagine this chapter came easy to Coleen! A shopaholic she is indeed. She gives her golden rules for shopping in this section, and I couldn't agree more with them. And of course, Cricket does get a mention in this chapter.
Pulling into a Garage for Petrol and an Engagement Ring
Here we read about the way in which Wayne proposes to Coleen at the petrol station after things don't go to plan when they go for a Chinese. I thought this was actually really sweet.
The Tears of Leaving Home and the House of Our Dreams
Coleen describes how hard it was to leave home in this chapter despite moving into the most amazing house. This is because she misses her family and I think I would be the same. She doesn't come across as ungrateful though, just honest.
When the World Isn't Watching
Here we read about what Coleen likes to do behind closed doors. And in there is nothing that the rest of us do on a daily basis; cooking and watching television especially the soaps on a Monday. She tells us how Wayne will watch any football game that's on regardless of who it is playing, but to be honest I'm not surprised. I'm like that aswell.
My Experience of Men and Fashion... i.e. Wayne
Wayne is discussed in this chapter, although she doesn't reveal too much, and I think this shows that she genuinely cares for him a lot. She always has a list of the must have wardrobe items for the men. I'll be whipping my bloke into shape after reading this. Some good tips.
Eyes and Teeth: If They're Smiling Then So's the Rest of You
This chapter focuses on beauty from your skincare to manicure and pedicures. And is there anyone who could tell you more about this stuff, than the girl who has them regularly. And it clearly works as she always looks amazing so I think I'm going to take some tips.
Beach Babe
This section is dedicated to the holidays she has been on and how if she could, she would every day of the year. So would I! She also gives u a list of what is essential in her beach bag. I'll definitely be taking note. There's also a picture of her popular red and white polka do bikini that was splashed all over the press after she unveiled that amazing body.
Give It a Go: That's my Attitude to Life
Here Coleen explains how she is always willing to give anything a chance once, from fashion and beauty to her career opportunities. She talks about her chances given by LG phones and Asda and how she is very grateful for them, and I believe that she is genuine.
My Whole Life Ahead of Me
Coleen describes here her future aspirations and what she wants to her future with Wayne. She explains how she still can't believe what she has experienced in the past few years and how she would just love for it to continue.
My Big List of Questions
This is a section Coleen has in her book that I loved, as similarly to her, I love reading the quick fire questions in magazines. And this is comparable to that. I thought in this section Coleen showed herself to be a really sweet girl and really enjoyed learning about her favourite actress, colour, etc.
Personally, I really enjoyed reading her book as she doesn't pretend that it's a biography about her life as she is only 22, but she does give girls like me advice on how to make the most of your figure. My suggestion for this is that you don't knock it until you've read it. And if you've read my review above, you'll know not to expect a piece of literary genius, just a young woman's story. It's not going to be for everyone but if you like Coleen, it's worth a read.
