This has been a firm favourite with my family since my little boy began pre-school four years ago. We were introduced to it via a collage that the children had done featuring all the elements of the story and we soon brought our own copy and many other extras to go with the story. We basically have a repeating tale about a young family who are going on a Bear Hunt. This book is a rhyming story that i remember my mum teaching to my sister and I when we were little. It has really stood the test of time-I was amazed when, on a visit to my aunts house she whipped a copy of the book out and read it to my then 2 year old daughter. I had never actually seen the book although i knew the poem story, and it mesmirised my daughter, who loved all of the descriptive sounds in it. My aunt is manager at a local preschool and she said it is still a firm favourite with the children there. Since then, we have aqquired 3 copies of the book! I love reading this book to young children as it is a really fun story to both read and listen to. The story itself is about a family taking an adventure to go and find a bear. The story is very lyrical and is near-enough a song making it perfect for younger children as they try to join in. There are also many actions that can be used to accompany the story and joining these with the brightly coloured images within the book it is easy to make storytime both fun and interactive for everyone involved. Story time has always been a favourite part of the day with both of my children. My 18 month old baby boy gets excited when he knows we are going to read as he loves having his books read with him and enjoys looking at them himself. Before I was pregnant with my son I worked in the primary school that my daughter attended I was mostly with the reception and year 1 children. As all parents know kids are strange infuriating creatures especially between the ages of 2-5. One way in which this strangeness manifests itself is in their fixation with particular items that will send parents slowly but surely insane.
