Westsiders: Stories of Boys in the Hood is a book written by Willaim Shaw which follows his visit to South Central Los Angeles to meet the people there who are trying to make it big in the world of HipHop music. The book details their efforts, successes and failures and the happiness and disappointment that follows. While this book may not be your first choice of reading material I can't recommend it enough. Even if the subject matter doesn't really interest you too much, you won't be able to resist becoming intrigued by the characters that the author meets on his journeys.
