Horrid Henry and the Bogey Babysitter - Francesca Simon
by LAURALILIA - written on 04/04/09 (Very useful, 245 readings)
Rating:
Children love reading about children who actually beat their parents and teachers for a change. They are such good fun and so funny as well. Francesca Simon s clever use of alliteration in the names of her characters, sum up their personalities perfectly, from Moody Margaret to Sour Susan. Perfect Peter his younger brother, really is perfect, but in these stories being perfect doesn t always pay. Children come across alliteration even in reception class these days, so these books are a perfect introduction to this type of language use. In fact, this is probably what makes the books so much fun, as your own child plays with language and thinks up a few of his own ...

Rating:
imagination to create the pictures. This book won the Galaxy British Book Awards Childrens Book of the Year 2008. * Horrid Henry * Horrid Henry is written by Francesca Simon who began to write children s books full time after having her son. She was previously a medevilist and freelance journalist. She is now the author of over 40 books with the Horrid Henry series being by far the most sucessful. Horrid Henry is - well his name says it all- horrid! He encompasses the horrible parts within us all and mingles them altogether. You know when you have something awful going through your mind or at the tip of your tongue, well he wouldn t hold back. I can imagine that ...

The Adventures of Harry - Francesca Simon
by belfin - written on 30/03/07 (Very useful, 135 readings)
Rating:
*Background* Francesca Simon is probably better known for her popular series of Horrid Henry books. This one is for slightly younger children and has two stories combined in one book. Combined with the illustration talents of David Melling, this charming book is a great find. *The Stories* *What s That Noise?* Harry is a little dog who is going to stay at his Grandpa and Grandma s house for the first time. He is a bit nervous in such a big strange bed and when he hears a strange noise, it s not long before he s shouting for his Grandpa and asking him, "What s that noise?" All seems quiet until Grandpa realises that it s the radiator making a funny noise ...
