This is the latest book we got out of the library for Noah, although now Elijah too quite enjoys having a story read to him. It is a very simple childrens' book that tells of life on a farm filled with different animals. Basically, all the animals are quite loud but the ladybird never says anything (one can only wonder what he is doing on a farm anyway). One day, the ladybird overhears the elaborate plan hatched by some burglars, and plans to overthrow them, with the help of the other animals. This is a delightfully written story, written poetically using rhyming words about a little ladybird that overhears theives plotting to commit a crime on the farm. I read this to my 6 year old son and he loved it and wanted me to read it again. It had all the animals sounds in the book and my son thought it was hilarious when I tried to make the noises as I read it to him. It has a kind of "where's wally" theme, in the sense that somewhere on each page there is a glittery little ladybird that you can encourage your child to find, it can be very hard to find as he is occasionally very tiny, but it keeps a childs interest and helps them to ... This has to be one of the best books I have read with Noah to date. It's written by Julia Donaldson who has also published books like 'The Gruffalo' and 'The Whale and the Snail' so I was expecting big things from this one because I thoroughly enjoyed the latter. I have to say that she didn't disappoint and I will continue to sing her praises! The story tells of a farmyard of animals but on this farm was a prised cow. Each animal liked to make their individual noise as do most farm animals, the ladybird however never said a word until one fateful day.
