Advantages: Great guide to what your child might be doing and when

Disadvantages: Cant really be looked at for a coulple of weeks and returned, its an ongoing reference book

So you know when to call this hospital, how to breathe and more than anyone should ever understand about afterbirth, so what's next?

Well all you have to do now is take the little one home keep it safe and teach it all about the world. Easy eh? You weren't expecting that were you, and I bet you hadn't read up on it?

Well here is your cheat sheet. Written on a month by month basis with all major topics of getting through that first sleep deprived haze that is known as the first year. What to Expect has every circumstance that will happen and another million that won't covered in good detail.

The book isn't one to rent, it really should be purchased and used a reference guide. Even if you are a very confident parent those questions that should in the light of day seem simple or horribly confusing at 3am and you just dont have any idea what to do for the best.

The book effectively answered for me three questions that were always nagging in the back of my mind, and so brought a great deal of reassurance:

1. How should I play with him?
2. Is he developing well,

and of course

3. Will he ever sleep!

As an anxious father it really helped with a ready reference to can he do this? and should we try and teach him that next. It gives helpful hints and tips on wide ranging issues such as food and how to cope when you feel that everyone else is doing much better than you.

For example at four months your child be able to,
will probably be able to
might be able to
and
may possibly even.

Its a really helpful reassurance.

May sanity has been saved by this book on a number of occasions and I dont know of any who hasn't used the book and found something new, interesting and helpful in their journey as a parent.

And yes eventually they do sleep, so just keep walking them around the house humming that little tune - it will work, though maybe not until the sun has come up.

Summary: Buy this, relax and have fun - Parenting as the most fun you will ever have

I was given this book when I was pregnant but haven't got around to reading it yet. (Bit late as Josh is nearly 8 months old but hey...)

I would probably have been less stressed if I'd read this book before our son was born!

I had this book and the Toddler Years one and they are both just fantastic.
