Where Rainbows End

After watching P.S I Love You at the start of 2008, I made the mistake of buying not only the P.S I Love You book, but also about three other Cecelia Ahern books as well.

After reading P.S I Love You, I went onto a few other books and quickly found, that Cecelia Ahern's writing style was not for me, and only a few of the books were worth reading. This one in my opinion was probably the weakest one of hers that I have read.

The Plot
======

Rosie and Alex have been friends since they were very little, they have done everything together, and as they begin to grow up, their friendship doesn't change at all. However Alex and his parents uproot and move to America, and Rosie suddenly begins to feel the loss of her best friend, so decides to follow Alex and move to Boston. However fate stops her, and she is forced to stay in Ireland, are they meant to be apart? Or will fate intervene again and bring them together?

My Opinion
=======

I was actually surprised at how hard I found it to get through this book, I can usually finish a book of this size in less than 2 hours, but I think I had this book sat on my bedside table for two months and only read a few pages a night, as it just didn't seem to be going anywhere.

The book is written in what I believe is called epistolary form, which means that it is written completely in note or letter form. The whole book is a collection of notes, letters, emails, texts, postcards or even instant messages that have been sent to and from the characters and for me this is it's downfall. I have never really been a fan of epistolary novels as I find they do bore me quite easily, Meg Cabot is one author that writes epistolary novels quite often, and these are probably her only books that I do not enjoy.

The characters for me were not really developed in a way that you warmed to them easily. I found myself feeling indifferent to the two lead characters and really did not care what happened to them. I think this again may of had something to do with the style in which the way the book was written.

However please don't take my opinion to heart, as I know a lot of people that enjoy this writing style and enjoy Cecelia Ahern's writing style, I myself just am not one of them. I can't say the book was awful, because I did sit through the whole book, even though it took about two months, but it just didn't have the usual flowiness that I like in my books.

========
Final Opinion
========

If you are looking for a good author, whose writing style is flawless and who makes you laugh, then stay away from Cecelia Ahern and check out the likes of Sophie Kinsella or Meg Cabot, both of whom I've never read a book I really hate. I think Ahern's ideas for the books are fantastic; she just doesn't seem to deliver when it comes to putting pen to paper.
