Advantages: Easy and compelling read
Disadvantages: Style of writing takes a little getting used to (written in a series of letters)
Cecelia Ahern's follow up to the acclaimed 'PS I Love You' this is her second novel released in 2004.
It is written in the form of letters, emails and text messages between the two main characters Rosie and Alex. They are childhood friends who grow up together, move apart, fall in love and keep missing each other. Love comes at the wrong time for each of them. Through the letters we see their separate lives develop, moving further and further apart from each other.
The end is quite predictable but it doesn't ruin the overall effect of the book. Like her first novel I was unable to put this down and really enjoyed it.
I found the epistolary style at little difficult to get into so was not hooked from page one exactly but after a few pages I did get into it very quickly and then couldn't put it down.
I think this is as good if not better than PS I Love you - I read it compulsively, it's one of those ones that you know what will happen but need to read it and keep reading until you finish and then feel lost without it!!!
It's a really beautiful, charming story that I would recommend to anyone who is after an easy chick-lit read.
It can be purchased on Amazon for £5.49 (or thereabouts) but am sure if you look around can be found even cheaper. Whatever the price it is well worth the money.
Summary: An original story that you won't be able to put down!
