The North West of England contains some beautiful areas such as the Cheshire plains, the Trough of Bowland, and the Lake District. The landscape ranges from rich lowland farmland, rocky and sandy coastlines, to the highest mountains in England. The area also contains, of course, some of the most densely populated areas in Britain. Because of the wide variety of habitats, a significant proportion of the 300 or so species of bird that live in, or visits the British Isles can be found here.
