White Oleander - Janet Fitch ... White Oleander, has a mother who is as sharp as a new knife. An uncompromising poet, Ingrid despises weakness and self- pity, telling her daughter that they are descendants of Vikings, savages who fought fiercely to survive. And when one of Ingrid's boyfriends abandons her, she illustrates her point, killing the man with the poison of oleander flowers. This leads to a life-sentence in prison, leaving Astrid to teach herself the art of survival in a string of Los Angeles foster homes.

This book is one of the most haunting and amazing books I've ever read. The thing I like most about is you will never find another book like this. I really don't think anyone could create such an atmospere and plot like Finch did, this was so uniqueness of this adds to the story line. This haunting book is the story of Astrid - Ingrid's daughter. As the book opens on a parched LA landscape, we learn about how much Astrid loves her crazy, artistic mother. She follows her everywhere, ...  Read the complete review
