Advantages: Havoc's finest work to date

Disadvantages: Not an easy book to describe.

A novel in 3D: Demented, Deranged and Delirious. White Skull is the story of Misson, who sails in search of the pirate William Kid in the year 1666. An alliterative and oneiric cascade of language that ecstatically tells a story in graphic, beautiful detail. With strange echoes of Conrad's Heart of Darkness, as if James Havoc has transported the story to another dimension, to a place that Apocalypse Now could hardly dare to venture.

The writing flows, bubbling like lava. There's a nightmarish quality that is captivating, with the narrative submerged in the flow of words.

This is a realm of sex, violence and death. Of disease and pestilence.

Not a novel. Not a poem.

It is, without doubt, James Havoc's finest work to date.

This is going to be a book you either love or hate, it allows no other reaction.

MALU: I've got premier ops before, but this is a book that's different, hence the different style of op.

Sorry, but that's not enough for a good oppie, tell us precisely what you liked, why it appealed to you - that's what makes an opinion really brilliant. (As you can see when you read around in the Premier Opinions list). Cheers, Malu
