Advantages: Great price at min, gorgeous book, great info
Disadvantages: none
The latest book from straight talking stylistas Trinny and Susannah of 'What not to wear' fame.
'Who do you want to be today?' was published in September of last year, the book is different to others they have brought out. There are no rules or orders of what neck-line to wear; in their own words "This is a book to inspire the creative spirit in you".
I have read some of but don't own any of the other books by the famous duo, I bought this solely for the reason that it was reduced from £20 to £5 in WHSmith!
It's what I call a 'pretty book'.
The kind you can flick through and admire the pretty pictures and illustrations; it's very girly and each page is very well thought out with lots going on.
The inside of the covers is printed with a lovely design reminiscent of a vintage floral wallpaper, the next few pages explain what this book is about and it's aim; to have fun with fashion.
Each page has pretty little drawings of flowers, butterflies etc. For anyone who has read it, this book is very similar in design to Victoria Beckhams: That extra half inch.
Who do you want to be today?
------------------------------------------------- --------
The book is broken down into key looks, different things you can try out. The looks featured are:
Bombshell; Hot and sassy
Gamine; Innocent and childlike
Cuttingedgecool; Original and experimental
Androgyne; A girl in boys clothing
Ice Queen; Enigmatic, cool perfection
Avant-garde eccentric; An individual eccentric
Diva; Sultry and sexy
Sophisticate; Assured and stylish
Rock Chick; Wild and strong
Minimalist; Calm and authorative
High maintenance; Expensive and slick
Boho; An arty fairy.
For each of these looks there are 20 pages, the first being an image of Trinny and Susannah 'dressing up' in this style.
Then for each there is a gorgeousl illustrated description of what each 'look' entails. For example to be a bombshell you need to be ready for the wolf-whistles and heads turning as you walk by apparently...
They then give you an example of a famour person who embodies this style; Gamine= Audrey Hepburn.
The next double page is a gorgeous collage of things that make you think of the look in question, colours and images which portray the 'look'.
Next is a 'wardrobe essentials' double page spread with a list of about 10 items you NEED to carry off the look.
Then we are shown a daytime and nighttime outfit for each look.
Next are the 'finishing touches' including make-up, accesories and perfume which is perfect for the person you are being; for example bright red lipstick is a must for a bombshell!
The final part of each section is a 'how to' on hairstyles and make-up for the looks; an example being 'how to do the perfect blow dry' for the Sophisticate look.
After each of the key looks has been dissected, the last few pages of the book are 'Where to look'. These include places for vintage clothes, different department stores, shops in Paris or New York etc.
A great read, I say read when really you don't read but just skim through the info as and when you feel like it. Its an easy browse and truly enjoyable for any Trinny and Susannah fans or just people who like fashion.
There are no boring rules to follow, to me it's fashion as fashion should be; fun and expressive!
Summary: A beautifully illustrated guide to dressing up!
