Advantages: It's hilarious
Disadvantages: Your sides may ache
Oh wow! What a Christmas present this book turned out to be!
I've been a huge fan of Wossy for years, so as soon as I heard about this book it went straight on the top of my Christmas list. As I craftily leave my Christmas list in very public view, I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised at getting two copies, but Tesco did agree to swap one copy for the new Jeremy Clarkson book (review to follow), and always better safe than sorry.
The title is scarily (but unintentionally) timely, bearing in mind the recent debacle over the Ross/Brand/Sachs fiasco, but doubtless this just helped to boost sales.
Despite the book being 320 pages long, I finished it by Boxing Night. I simply could not put it down. Many, many times I was literally crying with laughter at his anecdotes - never more so than during his graphic descriptions of early sexual encounters. Nor could I chuckle quietly - this book warranted true belly laughs, loud enough to wake my dozing, rather bemused, husband.
Jonathan's writing style is identical to his talking style - punchy, humorous and self-mocking, with a great sense of the ridiculous. I could actually hear his voice in my head as I read, as if he was telling me the stories personally. His anecdotes are just the right side of believable, and he comes across as a warm, gentle man, totally in love with his family and life in general.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to laugh. Not a Ross fan? Read it anyway - I bet you will be by the end!
Summary: The funniest book I've read in years
