At home, at last it made sense why my other half could never find anything that was right in front of him in the fridge, and why he wouldn't worry about general house cleaning but would then (to me) obsessively clean a gas ring or such like. The other day a colleague of mine told me that whenever they return from an invitation, his wife annoys him by asking questions like, “Did you see So-and-so’s expensive watch?” or “Did you notice that Mrs So-and-so dyes her hair?” or “Do you think X and Y have an affair?” He said that he’d better things to do than waste his time which such trivia, he preferred a good conversation with an intelligent person to people watching. I looked down at him (I‘m taller!) and said, “My dear man, even if you wanted to, you couldn’t notice such things, because you belong to the male part of the human species ...  Read the complete review

I'm sure many of you will have heard of, or even read, John Gray's best-selling relationship/self-help book 'Men Are From Mars...' . Well this book, 'Why Men Don't Listen & Women Can't Read Maps' by Allan & Barbara Pease, maybe is similar in some ways, given that it explores the differences between men and women, but I found it a much better read. This is due to the fact it is more light-hearted, whilst still being helpful, and also very funny! I was given this book as a gift some time ago, and really enjoyed reading it. ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Allan Pease is body language expert, author of the best-selling book 'Body language', as well as ...  Read the complete review

The argument presented in books like this - that men and women think and behave differently because of their biology - is often dismissed on the ground that we’ve seen it before, in the infamous pseudo-medical misogyny of the ancient world and pseudo-scientific misogyny of the Victorians. Dismissing the argument like that is a little like saying that because we couldn't cross the Atlantic in a dug-out canoe, we can't cross the Atlantic in an aeroplane. In other words, the evidence for the argument is different to what it was and, for me, much more powerful and much more convincing. No-one would deny that men and women have innately different ...  Read the complete review

This book transformed my attitude to work in an industry dominated by men (I used to be an engineer before a career change). Suddenly the dynamics of meetings made far more sense, and I realized how I might have been antagonizing my male colleagues completely unintentionally! It is a slightly alienating feeling, realizing that my colleagues saw the world in such a different way, but the advantages of understanding these differences far outweighed the downsides. At home, at last it made sense why my other half could never find anything that was right in front of him in the fridge, and why he wouldn't worry about general house cleaning but would then ...  Read the complete review

Sorry, thats not strictly true. I don't believe we will ever truely understand the male species, but this book certainly puts things into prospective. The only thing I asked for for christmas, and it was well worth it. Of course I haven't had a chance to read the whole book yet, but its not that sort of book. Pick it up, put it down, read it over and over. You'll certainly be able to relate to the majority of the issues raised. It could be more use than a relate marriage counsellor, from the point of view that it is real and honest. It doesn't fancy things up, it tells them as they are, straight to the point. Why is ...  Read the complete review
