A friend of mine passed this book on to me to read, after she had went through a phase of reading every self-help book and relationship guide she could get her hands on! She promised me that it was a book you could dip in and out of, rather than just read from start to finish and thought I would like some of the humour in it. Humour is what sets this book apart from best-selling relationship guides such as John Gray's ' Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus' . It tackles everything from reading body language, lies, emotional blackmail and the differences between the way men and women think and communicate, with a good dose of humour thrown in, just ... Don't get the wrong idea, please! I do not make a habit of delving into the murky and shark-populated waters of self help books. I do not have a Bridget Jones-esque fascination with applying various hare-brained schemes based on the actions of civilizations who died out thousands of years ago to my life. I just got curious, and of the two books of this genre I have ever read, this was the second. I have, therefore, one good thing to say about it; it has probably saved me from ever wasting money on such tripe again. I suppose you can say that to describe such a book as tripe is pointless because the world of wealth inside it cannot always been applied to ... Read the complete review

I was drawn to this book not only by it’s brightly designed and eye-catchingly simple cover, but also by what I read inside. (I have the paperback version by the way.. I don't suppose it makes any difference!) Allan and Barbara Pease write in an extremely humorous fast-paced and yet accessible way. The book isn’t so much a self-help book than it is an account of anthropological and anatomical differences in men and women and how they affect their relationships. Yes, these views may well be over simplified, over generalised and can be explained in alternative ways, but it is still food for thought and a very interesting read for those who are interested in the ... Why men lie and women cry is a fascinating insight into the social differences between genders, with a bit of humour thrown in for good measure. The content is very accessible, and does not explain super-detailed scientific theories. However, there are certain generalisations made - with no room for exceptions of "gender rules" which I find offensive is certain cases, particularly in the case of men. Men are portrayed as completely unable to empathise, (particularly with women) hold an engaging conversation, have a great inability to read body language, and all like "crude humour such as farting competitions" or analyse social situations. While this ... Read the complete review
