Wibbly pig opens his presents. It must be Christmas or his birthday

Mick Inkpen the author of kipper books published this little book in 1995. Retails new at £4.99.I bought mine for 30p from the library it had been withdrawn from stock.

This book is a board book about 12 cm square it has 7 pages. It is a great size easy to pop in your bag for a journey it will help keep toddler amused.
I think it would be good for a baby till about 5 yrs old.
The pictures are uncomplicated and the words printed are ones that a child when beginning to read will be able to pick out a few words

It must be wibbly pig’s birthday he is on the front cover paper discarded on the floor a ball in his hand and a big grin on his face.

On the first page there a heap of five presents all wrapped up above them the words These are wibbly pigs presents. On the opposite page Wibbly pig is pointing to his presents.
Turn over and there are 4 presents with the words “A bear” above it. On the opposite page wibbly pig sits. There is wrapping paper all around him and with a smile on his face he is holding a teddy bear.
Turn over now only 3 presents. On the opposite side wibbly pig is riding a blue toy car. That must have been his next present.

Next page two presents with the words a book about himself and on the opposite page we see wibbly pig reading the book Wibbly pig likes bananas.
Wibbly pig is sat here on this page with paper strewn behind him and his toy pig between his legs.
Turn the page and only one round present can you guess whats in side it ? I can . Above the present are the words some sweets and opposite is wibbly pig with a tube of smarties pouring them all out on the floor he does have a big grin.

Over the page is time to open the last present.
Yes we were right the last present is a ball there is a picture of a stripy ball and the words and a ball on the opposite page wibbly pig is stranding up arms in air having just thrown the ball.
Turn the page and we can read the words but wibbly pig likes the paper best! What present would you like? The picture opposite this word is of wibbly pig sat on the wrapping paper some on his head. He has a big grin on his face he must be having fun. Don’t we always say at Christmas that babies have as much fun with the paper as they do with the toys?

This book is a good one to read to children it has familiar objects and simple words. You can count the presents hoping your child will pick up on the counting point to the familiar object say them and this will encourage babies first words. Yes I think this is a suitable first book for a baby maybe between the age of 1 and 5. Happy reading , we all have to start somewhere .

Before reading story why not wrapp a few boxes /presents and let your children unwrap them , will help thier fine motor skills
