Description: ISBN 0007105975 / Author: Colin Bateman / Genre: Fiction / This is the story of Harry McKee - sleazy local chat show host. A once loving husband, he's become a drunken unfaithful slob and even his kids won't speak to him. His wife is divorcing him and taking him to the ... more
Wild About Harry - Colin Bateman ... cleaners. On his last night as a married man he winds up drunk and is beaten up. When he keels over the next day at the divorce hearing his wife and solicitor assume he's pulling a fast one. He eventually wakes from a week-long coma but he's lost his memory - everything since 1974. Inside his sagging middle-aged body he feels eighteen. Though he doesn't know it yet, Harry has been given the chance to get back his life, his wife and his self-respect. If only he could remember how it all went wrong and why his family hate him. As the pieces of his past slowly begin to fall into place we watch Harry attempt to persuade Ruth to fall in love with him all over again, and witness his failure to resurrect his career. Clinging on to the past, he at least still fits into his teenage tank-top and flares - but he's only got two weeks until the next divorce hearing, when he will be homeless, childless and clueless!

things start to get both violent and weird. I find Colin Bateman books to be a wonderful mixture of dark comedy and well crafted plot lines and this particular book is no exception, Corrigan is an excellent lead character who is going through a bad patch after his wife left him but sees new hope in the beautiful princess. This is an amusing read and while it is not the sort of book that will have you laughing out loud it will cause you to have a few wry smiles along the way at the style in which he crafts some comedy situations. It is a little on the short side at just under 250 pages but it is an entertaining read and equally as good as his other ...

Turbulent Priests - Colin Bateman

Premium Review The Second Coming (677 words)
by Emmald - written on 10/02/09 (Very useful, 79 readings)
Rating:

The Daily Telegraph listed the northern Irish author Colin Bateman among their top 50 crime writers. Colin has written books for both adults and children alike. The main character of the `Turbulent Priests` is a guy called Dan Sharkey, who appears on more than one of his books. Dan is a fictitious Belfast journalist who is a child in the guise of a man. Dan has an interesting philosophy on life, he loves to be wicked and above all he loves a good drink, if not `needs` a good drink! This book was my first experience of Colin Batemans literary style and it wont be my last. I have to say that I came by the book courtesy of the British Heart Foundation for the princely sum ...

characters, often in moments of greatest peril and some of the situations that Starkey finds himself in are very comical. The Author Born in Northern Ireland this was Colin Bateman first novel and given that he himself used to write an award winning weekly satirical column for the County Down Spectator you can see a certain similarity between him and his first character Starkey. Following the success of Divorcing Jack he has published 14 additional novels some of which feature Starkey as well as writing the screen play for Divorcing Jack however he is probably best known for Murphy Law featuring James Nesbitt. Brilliant story, fun read, well written None

Provides a subtle degree of backstory. Fills in a few holes. It doesn't come across as Harry Pierce.

amazing story, fantastic characters, beautiful writing. Its a little long, and confusing at times.
