Advantages: brilliant anf gripping
Disadvantages: hard to get into at first
I am a bit partial to Emma Blair books because she mainly writes stories based around Glasgow but has been known to travel down to Devon and in this case Cornwall. It is set in the second world war as is many of her books but the stories are varied and very different every time. Here we meet Maizie Blackare who runs the Paris hotel in a small fishing villiage called Coverack in Cornwall. She runs the hotel with the help of Alice because her husband Sam is off fighting with the Navy. Buisness is quite slow due to the war but one day a young solider called Christian arrives to recover from his injuries he has recieved in the war. Christian is french but is an ally fighting at Dunkirk. His friends reccomended the villiage to him as they had been a few years before and knew it would aid Christian in his recovery. As the war progresses Maizie decides to take in two evacuee's from Plymouth and give them board at the hotel. They are lovely children but miss there parents badly. It soon becomes clear that there is an attraction between Maizie and Christian but Maizie is a woman of honour and decides to stay with her brute of a husband. But Christian gets sent off on another mission when he recovers and Maizie doesn't know when she will see him again just as events take place that might ensure their future together. Emma Blair has got a unique style to her writing such as when I start to read her books I generally find them hard to get into sometimes but before you know it you are hooked on her characters and the story. I find this with most of her books so If you come across one of her books and can't seem to get past the first chapter bear with it as I can assure you it does get much better. For me her stories come to life and this book was no different. You can just picture yourself living in Coverack and visiting the hotel. I would highly recommend wild strawberries to anyone who lov
es a good romantic novel but with a smidgen of intregue and twists in the tale. Once you read an Emma Blair book you will want to read them all. Oh one last thing Emma is actually a man called Iain Blair but writes under the name of Emma but I have no idea why as he doesn't give interviws. Very strange man but his books are great so I forgive him/her.
