Here we are again, another book review about another book bought from my local library sale, not a good one this time though!

The book I will now review is "Wildwood by Frances Gordon".

This was one of the books I was actually looking forward to. The blurb on the front of the book describes it as "A chilling novel in the best selling tradition of Anne Rice".

The general idea behind the book is that it is an adult fairytale, chilling and slightly disturbing, being something of an urban legend if you like, so I was genuinely looking forward to this.

The jist of the story is this - Felicity has just discovered that her husband is not exactly faithful to her, the fact that his untruths now not only run to endless affairs but have now included her imminent bankruptcy due to him falsifying documents and her signature.
The fact that he has frittered away nearly £150,000, including the equity he managed to squeeze from the bank for the house has bittered the relationship somewhat!

Just as she is coming to a decision on what is the best course of action for her and her daughter Bryony, her husband Connor is tragically killed in a car accident.

When a post mortem is carried out on his body, and unbeknown to his wife and child, the medics are amazed to find highly unusual blood counts and tissues, who was Connor after all?

At the same time across the other side of the world based on an island just off Borneo, a team made up of trainee scientists and a particularly dashing man named Dr Piers, are conducting experiments on a tribe of, what can only be described as Lycanthropes, wolf people to you and me!

After a rather baffling chapter discussing evolution of this mythical creatures, and may I say in parts it really did go right over my head so to speak, it finally ends with a conversation with how these creatures would never be able to get off the island let alone integrate into human society, unnoticed, or have they done so already?

I have to be honest I didn't read all of the book. I managed about half of it before I gave up! I think if the author had stuck with the story of Felicity and Bryony and not over complicated it with the extra stories about islands and scientists I may have been able to continue with it.
