Rating:
s a riveting read and surprisingly brief and easy going. I m giving nothing away, it s the tale of the monster vs the hero. The conclusion is foregone (and explained in the book too). John Gardener has written an amazing book here, it deals with a surprising number of issues and themes from finding meaning in life, morality and philosophy It s a good book. Go on or at least buy the movie Grendel Grendel Grendel if you can find ...

The author John Gardner is best known for reviving James Bond in the early eighties, his novels are nearly always murder/thrillers. He died in 2007 and this novel was published ...

He had just been commissioned to bring back one of the greatest literary characters created to life. Even though Kingsley Amis wrote the novel Colonel Sun released in 1968 in an attempt to revitalise the novels, this was only a one off book. Gardner liberally bought Bond into the eighties. Bond, who according to previous novels was actually born in 1921, would have in reality been retired with a pension by now, however what Gardner has done is take the character round about roughly the same age as Fleming s Bond and simply bring him into the present ...
