The money gives her confidence, and her husband Edward can only look on resentfully as she resumes her medical career, sheds some of her domestic burdens, reforms old relationships. And then more sinister questions arise. A chance convesation sheds doubt on the source of her legacy. Where did it really come from, how, and why? But by now the legacy, part benign influence, part brutal force, is an absolutely powerful entity all of its own - one that Cassia cannot resist.

Another Woman - Penny Vincenzi

Premium Review Who is this other woman? (653 words)
by kingfisher111 - written on 14/12/06 (Very useful, 175 readings)
Rating:

This is the first book I have read by Penny Vincenzi and I was not disappointed at all. In fact I found it an incredibly enjoyable but intriguing read! This is one of her earlier books though, written in 1995, and it always seems strange these days to read a fairly contemporary novel where there are no mobile phones! It goes to show how even novels become dated! Anyway, back to Another Woman . I was firstly drawn to the title, wondering who indeed was this another woman . It turns out that she is Cressida, who disappears mysteriously the night before her lavish wedding is due to take place. Interestingly, we never meet Cressida in the story, although she is about ...

Into Temptation - Penny Vincenzi

Premium Review A great end to a brilliant saga (297 words)
by eilidhcatriona - written on 21/05/09 (Useful, 10 readings)
Rating:

This is the third and final volume in Penny Vincenzi s Spoils of Time Trilogy, and we are now following the children and grandchildren of Celia Lytton, still the matriarch of the family and still ruling over her brood. As ever, Vincenzi s storytelling is compelling and the historical detail is excellent. The Lytton family is now very large, but we still follow characters from all branches whose stories are intertwined. In my reviews for the first two books, No Angel and Something Dangerous, I wrote a lot about Vincenzi s masterful storytelling and the history that each book is set around. I don t want to repeat myself too much, so I will just say that all of that ...

Something Dangerous - Penny Vincenzi

Premium Review A fantastic sequel (378 words)

makes mistakes, and drives some of her children away from her. Her children have difficult and complicated relationships, and struggle to find their way through life. As ever, Penny Vincenzi s storytelling is superb. She draws us into the lives of all her characters, and I found myself completely caught up in their stories and unable to put the book down - even after having read it several times! As in all her novels, the historical detail is fantastic, and the atmosphere of World War II is evoked brilliantly. We sit with the characters as they listen to Churchill s iconic speeches on the radio, and suffer with them as they wait for their children and loved ones to ...
