This book really is a winner! (The Winner - David Baldacci)

Advantages: Good character, great plot, well written

An impoverished single mother, living in a trailer home with her abusive slobbish boyfriend and struggling to afford to feed herself and her baby. One day she gets an offer she can't refuse - the change to be guaranteed a win of at least $50m on the US national lottery. All she has to do is say yes...

In my brief intro above I've given away a lot less than is contained in the blurb on the back of the book - be warned! It's a fantastic concept with a very likable main character. It is excellently written, the pace is fast but not so fast it makes your head spin. The only problem I guess is that you know most of what is going on by the time you are half way through, however there are still some unanswered questions until just before the end, and it's very enjoyable seeing the plot unravel even if you know most of what is going on.

Overall a great thriller, the best I've read by David Baldacci and one of the best thrillers I've read in years.
