My Mum introduced me to Terry Goodkind about 7 years ago and since then he has been one of my favourite authors. I have read every single one of his books and loved them all. The first book I read was Wizards First Rule written in 1994. This was his first book in the epic fantasy series The Sword of Truth. Richard Cypher lives in the Westlands working as a woods guide in a place where there is no magic. The Westland is separated from other lands by a magical boundary that was put in place by a group of wizards along time ago to prevent the evil ruler of D'Hara Panis Rahl from ruling all the lands. There are 2 boundaries in place, one between the Westland ... Read the complete review

As you’re probably aware by Katy’s reviews we love a writer called Terry Goodkind. After reading his novels for a few years I have decided to finally write a review on his first novel Wizard’s First Rule. A fantastic book which was written way back in 1994, it is the first in his Sword of Truth series which has carried on to now be up the tenth book which we have just read and loved. The story Wizard’s First Rule can be categorised in any genre really as it does deal with pretty much everything. It has a bit of romance, a bit of comedy, drama, war and a pretty good amount of gore. But what I think it is mostly is fantasy. Set in a world where a sword and ... Read the complete review

I'd been meaning to read this for a while but only recently got around to doing so, despite the information on the back cover not actually being that true I found this much more enjoyable than I expected. There was something about this book which made me keep reading and led me to finishing the book far quicker than I expected. The book wasn't that original, the world wasn't described in perfect detail, the characters often seemed stupider than they were supposed to be but I still felt that the book was extremely well written and flowed well. Given that I've mentioned so many flaws with the book you may think it's strange that I've ... Read the complete review

Wizard's First Rule is the first in an epic series of fantasy novels by Terry Goodkind. This book first hit the shops in hardback format back in 1994. It was an instant hit. The Sword of Truth series went on to be one of the best selling fantasy series' of all time. It has taken nearly 14 years for Goodkind to finish this series which includes 11 books. I first got myself a copy of this book when I was about 14. One of my dad's friends suggest I read it, but back then I was really not into reading much. I must admit though I loved this, I read the entire book which was very unusual for me. However I never got round to carrying on with the series. ... Read the complete review

Although the Dragonlance series I was reading were a tough act to follow, I think that this book has done a fantastic job!! I bought this book purely because I could not find the one I wanted, I wasn't expecting much as I was completely in love with the Dragonlance's. I was, however, pleasantly surprised! Although at times I found that the situations and their outcomes were a little too easily come by (ie a brief remark about something, then finding out in the future that some random occurence came about as a result of this - and suddenly everything seems to 'fall into place'). Most readers will find that this happens in most fantasy novels ... Read the complete review
