Happiness is a good book. Preferably a good book by David Gemmel, and this series certainly doesn't disappoint. David Gemmel is preliminarily a fantasy writer, but the Jon Shannow books would be better described as being fantasy/science fiction. The Shannow books are set 300 years into the future. As unlikely as it may sound, the Earth has toppled on its axis, devastating out our civilisation. The remnants of humanity live in constant fear of roaming gangs of bandits and murderers, called "Brigands" by Gemmell. Amongst this unforgiving background rests Jon Shannow.
