'The Woman in White' by Wilkie Collins is an excellent example of the Victorian thriller. Its twists and turns keep you hooked and guessing until the very end. The best thing about this book is the character Count Fosco he is a hilarious villian who is very creepy and unsettling. I took this book on holiday and loved reading it by the sea, the only downside is that it is a tad long and can be quite heavy to carry about. It relies on cliff-hangers and puzzling twists of plot to turn what at first appears quite a simple problem, but proves to be a lot more complicated. The story is structured in a series of narratives, the overall narrative being that of the novel’s protagonist, Walter Hartright. Hartright, a painter, receives a job at Limmeridge House to assist two cousins in their painting skills. On the way to his placement, Walter encounters a ghostly woman, all alone and dressed in white, and in considerable distress. ... Read the complete review
