Advantages: Reasonable price paid, not too long, good ending.

Disadvantages: Average read, boring for the first half.

Working wonders is a fiction novel from author Jenny Colgan that was first released in 2003 and is available in paperback form on Amazon.co.uk starting from 1p in the marketplace or £6.99 (the R.R.P) direct fom Amazon. I purchased my copy from a charity shop for around 50p.

Storyline:

Working Wonders follows the story of Arthur Pendleton who is trying to help Coventry become the 'European City Of Culture' whilse competing against Ross (from Slough) who has got together with Arthur's ex-girlfriend, Fay. Arthur has a rather oddball team of staff & together they go through the ups & downs of trying to win whilst trying to keep the moral high ground against Slough's team. There is quite a lot of action throughout the book and there is also some romances running throughout. The ending of the book has some predictable parts but some real surprises too which I just wasn't expecting.

My Opinion:

I have read one other book by Jenny Colgan (Amanda's wedding) that I enjoyed thoroughly and more than this book.

The plot of the book seemed interesting and my main reason for purchasing this was because of the bargain price I paid.

The story was a little awkward to follow for the first half of the book. By the second half of the book I had not read any of this for weeks and actually quickly got back in to the story. The characters were ones I could relate to a little and when they were working in the office together I could relate to some of their mannerisms. I think that most people will be able to relate to some of the characters.

By the end of the book I was really enjoying the storyline and found myself engrossed in it. The book didn't have an entirely happy ending (there were some good parts to the ending) which makes a welcome change from most of the books that I read these days.

Although it took me a while to get in to the book I did enjoy reading it and would reccomend it. This book gets a rating of 3/5 from me. I was happy Reading this is the second half but I'm sure quite a few people would have got bored before then anyway. This book is not worth £6.99 and I am only reccomending it if you can find it for a reasonable price.

Summary: An average read from Jenny Colgan.
