Advantages: There isn't anything creative that this book does not cover

Disadvantages: It is a big one and can be a little daunting

Everybody has a book in them, it?s a well-known saying, but what about if you have a poem, or a short story, or a magazine article, or even an encyclopaedia, what do you do then? Well my recommendation would be that you run along to your nearest book shop and purchase a copy of ?The Writers Handbook?for that year.

For anybody that is thinking about or has already written anything that they would one day like to see published this book will soon become your writer?s bible. It covers every subject that a serious writer would ever require from Publishers to Poetry Presses, National Newspapers to Newsagents; whatever literary field you would like to write in The Writers Handbook has a chapter to help, and many chapters on subjects that you have never even thought of, and are a mine of information.

The hugely comprehensive list of UK Agents ? a must for anybody wanting to write a book of any kind ? is easy to read and full of information. It clearly explains what sort of manuscripts they accept, their fees if any, a bit of background history and contact details. It is clearly visible which agents are members of the A.A.A, Association of Authors Agents, their commission rates and the authors that they currently represent.

The book does not just contain lists and lists of names and addresses, it also has well written and helpful sections on how to present your work to an agent or publisher, what to expect if you self-publish, the ins and outs of internet publishing and a really helpful section on tax, the bit none of us ever want to think of!

It?s a biggish book, about 2 1/2 inches thick, but this is not padding only valuable info that should be read and re-read and then read some more. There are over 5000 entries for every vein of literature and creative writing, and because it is updated every year it is never out of date. If you are a first time purchaser of this excellent reference book, then please don't be put off by its size,
take a deep breath and carefully look through the index at the front, it is fairy easy to navigate as long as you don't panic!

At around £13 this could well be one of the greatest purchases a hopeful writer buys, and as it has contact information for UK literary agents, TV and Film agencies, US Literary agents, libraries, prize giving organisations, writers courses among many, it could well be THE only book that you have to buy as well.

A subtitle on the cover is...'The complete reference for all writers, publishers, editors and broadcasters'...and never was a truer word spoken.
